Public Health Week is a valuable reminder that health is holistic. April begins with Public Health Week – a valuable opportunity to spotlight the critical things we must do to keep communities safe and improve quality of life. These techniques will strengthen the ability of children and young people to adapt well to adversity, trauma, and stress, skills that will remain with them into adulthood. Youth Connect 5 training provides the knowledge, skills and understanding to help children & young people develop strong emotional wellbeing through resilience-building techniques, whilst understanding why we feel the way we do. This is training that helps to build knowledge and skills, and the confidence to use those to have mental wellbeing conversations. In Devon Connect 5 training has been available to workforces & communities for a number of years. My Way is the new Wellbeing Service for children and young people in Devon, launched in autumn 2025.

There is a lack of cultural understanding and competency from providers which can lead to under diagnosis of mental illness in marginalized and diverse populations. Many factors can increase your risk of mental illness. In 2020, ‘Other’ adult populations had the highest percent of any mental illness followed by White, Hispanic, Black and Asian. Treatment for mentalhealth and substance misuse results in increased health spending and reduced earnings for families.
